I’m pretty sure the topic of lumber selection for constructing the cabinets can be as complicated as a Ph.D. thesis. I’m not a lumber export but I did make some good decisions on that. Here is the list of three lumbers I used:
Prefinished Birch Plywood for Box

My pick was prioritized towards beautiful finish and time saving. So, this is why I preferred to use the prefinished birch plywood. It was a little pricey, but the pre-finish came with an ultra-smooth surface, completely eliminating the need for time-consuming sanding works. The ¾” inch thick board was straight and solid, excellent for both structural and cosmetic purposes.

Pine Board for Face Panel

Similar thoughts for the picking of the Claymark branded pine board – nice finish and dimensionally consistent, which were the keys for the purpose of building face panels. And surprisingly, its price was highly affordable with rich options of different sizes.

Oak Board for Cabinet door

Last pick for the oak boards was purely for its beautiful grain patterns. The oak boards were expensive, hard to cut or router, it came unfinished which meant a lot of sanding work, which was totally opposite of my time-saving methodology. But it was definitely worth it after you saw the finished door panel. Nothing can beat the beauty of oak for a warm wood feeling.
